Prescription Decoder 処方薬の逆引き
A Japanese doctor handed you a bag of medicines and a sheet of katakana. This tool reads that sheet and tells you, for each drug, what it is, what it's for, and what it's called back home in the US, UK and Australia — or that it doesn't exist there.
1Paste the text from your medicine sheet 薬剤情報提供書・お薬手帳の文字を貼り付け
Getting the text out of a photo: on iPhone, open the photo, tap the Live Text icon (bottom-right) or long-press the words, Select All → Copy. On Android, open the photo in Google Photos / Lens and tap Copy text. Then paste below. You can also just type a single name, in Japanese or English.
2What you were given 見つかった薬
Keep taking everything exactly as it was prescribed. This page names the ingredient; it is not a signal to stop, swap, or re-dose anything. Japanese tablet strengths are often lower than at home, so “same drug” does not mean “same dose”.
この薬の成分名と、海外で同じ成分の薬があるか教えてください。用量が海外と違う場合も教えてください。
“Please tell me the ingredient name of this medicine and whether the same ingredient exists abroad. Please also tell me if the dose differs from overseas.”
What this tool does not do: it identifies the ingredient. It does not tell you whether the dose matches what you took at home, whether you can swap one for the other, or whether two drugs interact — Japanese tablet strengths often differ. Ask the pharmacist (薬剤師) those questions; showing them this screen is a good way to start. Coverage: the 355 medicines most often prescribed in Japan, matched by name only — a name that looks similar but is not in the list will simply be reported as “not recognised”, never guessed. List reviewed by Dr. Masa, September 2026. Nothing you paste is stored, even on this device. Missing one? Tell us and it will be added.
